Have you seen any new ads for Petronas or any other corporation for Merdeka or Raya? It seems that the TV stations are showing last year’s reruns. Are they too depended to Yasmin Ahmad’s 1Malaysia ads?
Speaking of the late Yasmin Ahmad, I never really fancies any of her movies. I even think her TV ads are too movie-oriented. I personally thinks that TV ads should be as light as possible but enough for viewers (or the target audiences) to remember and attracted to the ads.
I remember seeing some TV ads in the UK. They loves to feature animals in it. But the lasting impact is excellent. That is been the fact that the Britons are animal loving societies. Think about what Malaysian love and try to make some ads out of it.

Back to Yasmin Ahmad, I recently saw her film Talentime and I think it was pure genius. The casting was spotted on and choosing Ipoh as the backdrop of the movie is the right choice. I reminds me of the days I spent in Ipoh in the 70s.
