Taking the bus to work

Rapidkl Bus

Rapidkl Bus

I’ve been taking the bus to work lately. It’s not because of something wrong with my car, but purely out of convenient (mine, that is).

You see, my current project “force” me to be at the UMMC Petaling Jaya (which is about 15km away from my house). To get there, I have to use the Federal Highway (which is always clogged up all the way to UMMC, no matter how early I am) or the Pantai Expressway (I have to pay RM1.60 toll one-way and may be the need to endure the jam towards UMMC). Either way, I have to drive consciously and try not to fall asleep behind the wheel (I tell you, it’s hard to do when you’re only in bed at 2am). Plus, paying RM1 per hour for parking is daylight robbery!

Therefore, taking the bus is the best option. It’s RM1.90 one-way, plus I can doze off while traveling to work. And if I’m taking the monthly travel card, it’s RM100 per month (cheap, cheap!). Can you beat that with your fancy car?

Music, Muzik, Muziq!

I’m a music lover. Every now and then, I loves to explore music other than the top 40. Therefore, one fine day, I decided to head down to the local music shop (CD, that is) and “borong” some CDs. What do I choose?

1) Sean Paul’s Imperial Blaze – a little bit of reggae;

2) Daughtry’s Leave This Town – a little bit of rock;

3) Mariah Carey’s Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel – a little bit of pop;

4) Rob Thomas’ Cradlesong – a little bit of AOR (Adult-oriented Rock);

5) Greenday’s 21st CenturyBreakdown – a little bit of Punk Revival;

6) Colbie Caillat’s Breakthrough – a little bit of folk.

Basically the music selection is a mix of all genres. I like!

Happy Deepavali 2009!

What a novel gift!

I visited my usual haunt (aka Midvalley Megamall) last Friday for dinner. After some “memborong” sessions, we decided it was enough for the day (aka running out of money). Just as I was about to pay for parking, a young man came up to me and offered to pay my parking (aka RM1 only-lah). But there’s a catch. I need to answer some questionnaires based on the Mall and its tenants.

It was a straight yes and no answer (aka not using any brain power). In my humble opinion, I’ve aced the questionnaires (what?). But what comes next is a bit surprise, even for me.

Pokok apa lak nih?

Pokok apa lak nih?

For answering the questionnaires, the man (representing Midvalley Megamall) validated my parking ticket, gave me a bottle of mineral water, and a plant in a bottle (as per the photo above)! For those who wants to know, the plant is known scientifically as Aquilaria Malaccensis (or simply known as Pokok Karas or Geharu). It was placed in a bottle, tied up on the top with some see-thru cloth (for the plant to breathe), and some water-based jelly for food.

I think it’s quite novel for Midvalley to give the plant away, even for answering some questions. It beats giving out non-destructive shopping bags or even some discount coupons that you can’t use.

Nokia N86 Firmware Updates v20.115

Thanks to s60blog.com

The Nokia N86 (my new phone) has got a new firmware update, and it includes a lot of new enhancement to the camera. Among the updates to the camera are:

  • Improved still image quality
  • Improved video quality
  • Face detection added
  • Red-eye removal added (Nokia note: “this is image processing which removes the red-eye. You need to be in red-eye reduction flash mode for it to be operational. Other flash modes it is disabled as there is a small shot to shot impact due to the extra image processing.”)
  • New focus point indication – this shows where in the scene the camera is focussing
  • Improved Close-up focus. (Nokia note: “As a result you will find in most situations you can focus much closer than before. The new focus point indication will also help in confirming which part of your subject is used for critical focus checking”)

And other bug fixes:

  • Web
  • Music store client
  • RealPlayer
  • Ovi Maps
  • Here and Now
  • N-Gage client
  • Nokia Messaging

Have fun exploring!
