An Experience: Teh Tarik Place @ Empire

I had the chance to sample some food from a kopitiam called Teh Tarik Place in Empire Shopping Centre, Subang Jaya recently. A friend of mine recommended this place for breakfast. He said the place looks like an unfinished house, and how true he is. The place is full of unfinished walls (you can see the bricks and cement) and furnished with some simple decorations. Weird but quite a nice experience.

The menu...

The food menu is nothing to shout about and the same with other kopitiams. But the food that I wanted to try is the nasi lemak. It was mentioned that the nasi lemak tastes like the ones in the kampungs. Hey, it has been a while since I’ve eaten one.

Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken

The nasi lemak is just like any normal nasi lemak. The difference is in its taste. You can taste the smoky after-taste associated with cooking using firewood. Anyway, the experience is priceless. My grandmother used to cook it this way too!

Iced Cham and Teh Tarik

To satisfy our thirst, I’ve ordered iced cham (mixture of coffee and tea) and the usual teh tarik. The iced cham is not bad at all, not too sweet and not too bland. The teh tarik is a godsend!

Why not try it yourself?

Goodbye, Subramaniam Gopal!

Subramaniam Gopal

It has been a week since I received the dreaded calls from my friends. They said that my best friend of 30 years have passed away. I was still asleep when the calls and messages came in at 7.30am, and I had only couple of hours sleep prior to the calls. Well, who sleeps early on weekends anyway?

His real name is Subramaniam a/l Gopal, but we fondly called him ‘Anggam’. I don’t really know the origin of that name but I think the name stuck since early of our secondary school days.

Anggam is also the person responsible for introducing me to Liverpool FC. He gave me an authentic Liverpool jersey (the ‘Candy’ jersey) way back in 88-89.

He left behind his wife and two daughters.

Thanks Anggam for all the memories (all 30 years of ’em!). Rest in peace, my brother. Sorry for not spending enough time with you all these while. I will miss you…

Azizulhasni Awang, I SALUTE YOU!

Why?

  • He raced against Chris Hoy, the world’s No.1 in Keirin, at the Men’s Kierin Final at Manchester Track World Cup;
  • The smallest competitor among the Keirin group;
  • Falls down and got a 9″ Siberian pine embedded in his left leg;
  • Got up and cycled to the finish line. He got the bronze.

Malaysia is proud of you!

Panorama mode in Nokia E72

I was tinkering with my Nokia E72 camera settings when I came across one function that I didn’t know existed in the E72: the panorama mode. I’ve been with the E72 for nearly a year and took lots of photographs with it, and it is amazing how can I miss the panorama mode in it?

Once discovered, it’s time to test the function.

It’s relatively easy to use the panorama mode. Even a child can do it. Bravo to Nokia for making it so easy to use. You will have to change the standard camera mode to panorama, then take the first photo. Then move your E72 either to left and right (up to you) while keeping a steady hand and not to deviate away too much from the original frame.

A red frame will follow your movement and when the next suitable photo is within range, the camera will automatically take the picture. Wait until it saves the photo onto the memory card (or phone memory, depending on your choice), then repeat the same motion again. The best option is to take a maximum of 4 frames in order to get a suitable viewing size.

The end result might not be perfect, but hey, it’s not bad considering the stitching of several photos into one is done onboard the E72. Maybe with a bit of practice, the photo will turned out better looking.

My recommendation is to capture only 3 frames and stitch is up. Better for the eyes to see.
