My new Media Player – AVF Intermedio AH030

I have a vast collection of movies made from several different format (such as avi, MP4, DIVX or RMVB). And I like to play them on my TV, as I’m tired at looking through the MacBook’s 13″ screen. But my TV is still the old CRT type, and since it’s working fine till now (it has been 8 years), I don’t see a reason to replace it. The only way to watch the movies is to convert the different media types to DVD, and it gonna take me hours just to do one movie.

Then came the AVF Intermedio AH030 Media Player.

Quite unattractive box presentation

I was browsing for some IT stuff at The Curve Damansara when I came across this gadget. It can play various media types (RM, RMVB, AVI, DAT, VOB, MP4, MOV, DIVX, MKV, HDMOV, M4V, PMP, AVC, FLV, MPG, MPEG, MP3, WMA, OGG, AAC and many more) and able to support subtitles (the .srt files normally associated with movie files)

What's inside the box

The content inside the box consists of the media player itself, remote control, stand, power cable, audio-video cable, HDMI cable and user manual.

The player itself

The media player has a small footprint, but don’t be fool by it, as the player is quite versatile. Other than having the ability to play many formats, it can also accept multimedia input from pendrives, hard disks (up to 2Tb) and flash drives (MMC, SDHC and SD up to 8Gb via the built-in card reader).

The ports available...

The best thing is, it has the ability to connect to HDMI ports. This way, you can connect the AH030 to your LCD or Plasma screen TV. But be warned, the ability to display HD movies will depend on the quality of the movie itself. If it’s not coded in HD, then don’t hope that the picture will turned up with HD quality.

The player with a stand

For a measly sum of RM200, you can have one of this at your home.

Pros: Cheap; small footprint; plays multiple format; accept multiple media input; simple interface.

Cons: Quite difficult to find at shops; unit gets rather hot after playing a movie; don’t lose your remote, as it’s quite difficult to get a replacement (almost impossible); some new TV didn’t have AV ports.
