Macaroon

To tell you the truth, I never heard the name of these cookies before. I can’t really blame myself. Just look at the cookies (see below), and tell me if it really does looks delicious. Tell me, tell me!

Three macaroons

Only recently that most bakeries in town sells these babies. It was virtually unknown and undiscovered a few years ago. But what is a Macaroon?

According to Wikipedia:

A macaroon (/mækəˈruːn/ mak-ə-ROON }}) is a type of light, baked confection, described as either small cakes or meringue-like cookies depending on their consistency. The original macaroon was a “small sweet cake consisting largely of ground almonds similar to Italian or Moroccan amaretti.

The English word macaroon and French macaron come from the Italian maccarone or maccherone. This word is itself derived from ammaccare, meaning crush or beat, used here in reference to the almond paste which is the principal ingredient.

Most recipes call for egg whites (usually whipped to stiff peaks), with ground or powdered nuts, generally almonds. Alternatively, coconuts can be used. Almost all call for sugar. Macaroons are commonly baked on edible rice paper placed on a baking tray.

Well, no matter what you call ’em, I like Macaroons very very much! Especially the ones with peanut butter and strawberries. The macaroons I bought recently (pic as above) cost me RM7.00 a piece. That’s seven bucks A PIECE! I didn’t know macaroons cost so much!

Anyway, no matter how much they cost, I loves ’em!
