Datuk Mohd Jais Ahmad, or commonly known as Ahmad Jais, passed away on 11th October 2011 due to asthma complication. He is one of the original ‘pop yeh-yeh‘ singers way back in the 60’s and 70’s.
I grew up listening to Ahmad Jais’s songs when I was a toddler in the 70’s. At that time, both my mother and I were in Selama, Perak, she’s being a teacher at a primary school there. My father was not around, as he’s pursuing his degree at University of Malaya in KL.
When my mum’s working, I was home alone. To amuse myself, I played with my dad’s radiogram and his selection of albums (LP records), mostly by Malay artistes like Ernie Djohan, The Beatles, Bintang RTM and many more.
I knew most of Ahmad Jais’s songs, and my favourite is still “Budi Segunung, Gunung Seintan”, a duet with Kartina Dahari (as per the static video above).
With Ahmad Jais gone, part of my childhood memories are gone too. RIP Ahmad Jais and may Allah blessed you always.
