Liverpool Merchandise @ Reject Shop

I had some time to spend at Midvalley Megamall today after the Transformer 3 movie (Gold Class, no less) when I decided to pay a visit to Reject Shop (RS). I read in the daily newspaper that Reject Shop Malaysia is sponsoring Liverpool FC’s visit to Malaysia and they’re selling some merchandise with regards to their Asian Tour.

Front of the shop

I rarely go to Reject Shop (owned by Metrojaya Malaysia) as in my opinion, their clothing range is not that cheap and doesn’t qualify for the tag “reject” clothings. Reject items should be sold cheaper than retail and not with the same price brackets with clothes at normal retail shops. This goes to Factory Outlet Store (FOS) too.  It seems that the clothes there are getting expensive by the week. What gives, guys?

RS banner promoting the tour

I think that’s why Reject Shop is able to sponsor Liverpool FC (it’s not cheap) and selling its merchandise at the shop.  From what I read, the merchandise are official Liverpool FC products (aka original maa). I’m looking for some LFC scarves (which I don’t presently have) and was hopeful that the ones sold at Reject Shop was cheap and affordable. How wrong was I!

LFC merchandise section in RS

RS has allocated a special section to house the LFC Asian Tour merchandise. They sells mostly official t-shirts (no jerseys on sight), mugs, lanyards, keyrings, caps, pennants and scarves. It looks like the merchandise are locally made, but the sad thing is, the merchandise are all sold at premium prices. It’s funny ’cause RS is known as a cheaper alternative version of any retail outlets out there. But why the premium prices? To cope up the sponsorship money already splashed at LFC?

Just imagine, the scarves that I was looking for is priced at RM79.99 a piece. What the fark? It’s customised to the LFC Asian Tour 2011 on the front and the wording “You’ll Never Walk Alone, Liverpool FC” at the back. Even the scarves at LFC Online Store is sold for £8.00 (about RM38.00).

I’m disappointed with RS.

Signed shirt with certificate

I was so pissed off with the merchandise prices that I nearly stormed out of the outlet. That is until I saw something that really caught my eyes, literally.

On the wall in a frame, at the back of the cashier’s counter, was a current LFC home jersey with the signatures from all the current players. It comes with a certificate of authentication. What a gem! Just imagine the price for this signed shirt! But the sad thing is, I’m unable to recognised any of the signatures, not even Gerrard’s.

Good try, Reject Shop. But try harder next time.
