I read some newspaper reports with jest (and even live on TV after the Harimau Malaya vs Liverpool friendly match day) when Malaysia’s football coach, Datuk K. Rajagopal said that Malaysian football fans that came to the stadium to support Liverpool FC are not patriotic and should have supported Harimau Malaya instead. For this I say, WTF?
Am I not patriotic enough for supporting Liverpool FC instead of Harimau Malaya? Picture this: this is Liverpool FC’s first ever trip to Malaysia’s soil. And this is the first time I saw them in person, live (I didn’t managed to catch them when I was in the UK years ago). I’ve been supporting Malaysia way since their bitter rivalry with South Korean (even the football standard spiral downwards since). Get it?
And who are you to question my patriotism, Datuk Rajagopal? Are you a patriot, when you lift the Barclays Premier Cup (together with van der Sar) when the latter came to KL to celebrate Man U’s 19th title?
Please-lah, Datuk. Just because you’re unable to perform miracles on the Malaysian team (and quite a sore loser on that too), you mouthed away garbages like Malaysia fans not patriotic and should support Harimau Malaya instead of Liverpool/Arsenal/Chelsea. Didn’t you see/hear when Safee Sali scored against LFC and the Bukit Jalil Stadium roar, and everybody (both fans) celebrated together?
And seeing the Malaysian team performance yesterday against Singapore, is simply pathetic (Safee Sali is brilliant, as always). We can do much better than that. Singapore is NOT a strong team. They’re full of imports. But our defenders are letting us down. Don’t let me nag about the goalkeeper (where did you find this short guy?).
Just keep your mouth shut and do your freakin’ job!
